Who doesn’t love being tanned? I know I do, but in Britain the sun doesn’t always come out so it can be pretty hard to get that sun-kissed glow. Luckily, with a little help from make-up, you can get that glow which is why when I was in my local Superdrug I decided to give the new Bourjois bronzing collection a try and this is what I thought of each of the products:
Can we first of all note the resemblance to the Chanel Soleil de Tan? When I first heard of this new range I was so excited to see a more affordable cream bronzer come on the market because not everyone has £31 to splash out on just one product, but on further inspection I found that although the Chanel product is much more expensive, it holds 30g whereas the Bourjois product holds just 18ml for £9.99, not as much of a price difference after all if you think about it.
As for using the product, it can be worn alone or under power or foundation. You can apply it all over the face for an instant tan or, what I like to do, is apply it in the contours of the face, the cheekbones, around the forehead and just under the jaw line, as a base for my contour – I will then apply a bronzer on top as the colour pay off is not as strong as a bronzer or contour powder, this does however make it perfect for subtle contouring! The product does mattify the skin, which is great for oily skin but also isn’t so great if you’re looking for a bronzed dewy glow, however the BB Bronzing cream does give a dewy, ‘Healthy Glow’.
It is non comedogenic meaning it does not produce or aggravate acne and allows skin to breathe therefore it is suitable for people who suffer from acne.
This product has earned a spot in my everyday make-up routine and I will definitely re-purchase it once I have used it up. A bonus is it smells so good!! The fragrance is a rich, creamy kind of cocoa-coconut type smell, very different to the biscuit smell of fake tan. Mmm yum.
This product holds a resemblance to the This Works Perfect Look Skin Miracle, £28 for 30ml, but at only £9.99 is nearly a third of the price.
Okay, first of all, it says it’s 8 in 1, 8 being it gives a ‘refreshing sensation’, does that really count as a skincare benefit? I honestly felt no ‘refreshing sensation’ but I guess 8 in 1 sounds better than 7 in 1, hmm first bad point.
It did give me an even sheer tint but, as i suffer from redness, I didn’t feel it evened out my skin tone and I did need to put a foundation on top. It is SPF 15 but I always advise, if you are going to be out in the sun for a long period of time, put sunscreen on before your make-up! SPF in make-up is not as effective as sunscreen and if you don’t use SPF in the sun it can lead to burning, premature wrinkles and more so put on your sunscreen please!
The fragrance is similar to the primer, a kind of rich chocolatey, cocoa smell.
It gave me a healthy glow and definitely did boost my radiance, I would recommend those with oily skin use a powder if not just in the T-Zone.
I will use this product up but I don’t feel I’ll rush out to buy another just because I wasn’t blown away by it and it didn’t give enough coverage for me.
I wasn’t impressed by this bronzer. At all.
The colour is more orange toned because it contains Beta-Carotene, the strongly red-orange pigment that gives carrots, pumpkins and sweet potatoes their colour and it is used as food colouring.
It is very shimmery, it has a lot of gold shimmer throughout the product described as ‘glints of sunshine’, in my opinion it just gives you a shimmery face, making it look un-natural.
When applied with a fluffy blush brush it appeared patchy and un-even. I then used a different brush and again the same effect meaning I had to really buff and blend it in.
I will definitely not be using this product, when I did use it I wiped it off and used my trusty Benefit Hula Bronzer instead, sorry Bourjois, you haven’t won me over with this one.
